Lombard Golf Course Overview
“Enjoy 9 holes, enjoy life” states a large sign when you enter the grounds at Lombard Golf Course -- see it in the photos below. I didn’t expect life coaching from Lombard Park District’s 9-hole golf course, but I approve the sentiment wholeheartedly. This course provides a casual and laid-back atmosphere to play a round, and is perfect for beginners looking to test their game.
Two par-3’s and one par-5 grace the scorecard at Lombard, along with six par-4’s. At 3,051 yards, it’s not the longest track, but it will definitely test you. Water is prevalent on the property, coming into play on at least 6 holes. The east branch of the DuPage River defines the course’s eastern border and must be avoided on holes 4 and 8. Trees line many of the fairways here, and there’s not much breathing room between the parallel fairways. Thankfully, the greens are mostly straightforward.
One large practice green is available to warm up before your round. There’s no driving range, but there is a net to hit into. Lombard’s pro shop has some basic golf essentials like balls, tees, and gloves, but mostly is focused on getting you onto the course to play. Lastly, the “enjoy 9 holes, enjoy life” message wasn’t the only interesting sign that day. Another sign stated “Welcome Libby, our newest employee!” Libby looked like a cute border collie, and I wish I could have seen her in action! I hope the next time I come back, Libby will have gotten a promotion (and lots of treats).
