‘It’s hard to replace 100-year-old trees’: Canal Shore neighbors upset by removal of maples

Some neighbors of Canal Shores Golf Course, upset to see three old trees on the course get chopped down, on Thursday charged the trees had been felled without necessary permits.
But Evanston Council Member Eleanor Revelle (7th Ward), who had initially concurred with neighbors and said that something “fell through the cracks,” on Friday said Canal Shores does have authority to pursue renovation work on its property, including tree removals, based on correspondence from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and a legal opinion from former Corporation Counsel Nicholas Cummings.

Shepherd’s Crook Debuts Its New Practice Green

On Saturday, September 2, the new practice green was unveiled. This new practice area is immense, measuring 90 yards long by 30 yards wide, that is more than 23,400 square feet! Mimicking the Crook’s eighteen real greens, the practice green has multiple ridges and undulations with an elevation change of 8 feet. Chipping is permitted so golfers can check the firmness, run-out, and speed of these short shots, and the practice area also features a sand bunker.

Rich Harvest ready to 'put on a good show' when LIV Golf returns to the suburbs

Last year's Illinois golf season had a late addition, a tournament called LIV Tour Chicago staged at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. The LIV Tour was a new thing then, and Rich Harvest hosted one of just eight tournaments in the controversial circuit's first season.
The Saudi-backed LIV Tour is no mystery guest now, though. The Rich Harvest stop on Sept. 22-24 is the 12th of 14 LIV events this year, and Alex Kline-Wedeen, executive vice president-marketing at Rich Harvest, couldn't be more excited.

Cantigny announces major multi-year golf course renovation

antigny Golf announced today major renovation plans for its 27-hole golf complex, building upon a 34-year legacy of championship golf surrounded by natural beauty. Construction is set to begin in June 2024 on the Hillside nine, followed by the Woodside and Lakeside nines in succeeding years, with all renovations projected to finish by summer 2027. For the duration of the process, Cantigny Golf will maintain 18 holes open for play. In addition, Youth Links, the 9-hole golf course for junior players, will remain open throughout construction.

Obama Foundation Backs Away From Tiger Woods Golf Course In Jackson Park

Former President Barack Obama asked the golf legend to take on the course overhaul near the Obama Presidential Center. Now, Obama Foundation officials say they're not involved in the project and are "singularly focused" on opening the center.

An extra hole, a putting hole and more details on the Canal Shores renovations

A lot of effort is being exerted at Canal Shores Golf Course over the summer, but fortunately, its heavy machinery doing the work instead of your 7 iron.
Construction is well underway for the nearly $6-million renovations on the 104-year-old golf course on the border of Wilmette and Evanston, and more details about the improvements have come to light.

University Park settles case with former golf course management, will operate the golf course

The lawsuit by Michael Realty & Associates, the former course manager, was filed in 2016 by the company alleging its contract was wrongfully terminated in 2015 by then-Mayor Vivian Covington after she allegedly asked Michael Realty & Associates to rehire an employee who was terminated for theft, said attorney Dan Garbis.
The University Park Board approved a settlement Sept. 14 to end the case, without discussion, with Mayor Joseph Roudez thanking the board for approval, a video of the meeting shows. Brooks said the settlement was for $50,000.

Tiger Woods golf project near Obama Presidential Center is stalled; hopes remain for restoration of existing courses

While the Obama Presidential Center is rising in Chicago’s Jackson Park, a closely related project favored by the former president continues to languish.
Backers still hope to resurrect the grand plan for a new professional tournament-quality course next door, but with little progress, residents remain anxiously waiting for restoration of two existing courses.
In 2016, then-Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced plans for a new PGA-caliber golf course next to the planned presidential library. The proposal was backed by the clout of the former president and golf superstar Tiger Woods, whom Obama asked to design the course.
